opening OF LIFE AND LIGHT Søndermarken

13th October 2011 was the first phase of the project Life and Light opened. This happend when runners from both developers, consultants, suppliers and contractors took the 2.5 km long interactive jogging trail in use.

The trail has built-in lighting and digital functions as well as four related activity points to facilitate movement and play.

One of the innovations is a so-called hare function where runners enter the time in which they'll try to run the route, and hereafter they follow a "light hare" around the route. Physically this happens through a streak of light appears in light bollards (along the trail) when the runner fits into a pace comparable to the entered time.

The hare function, the improved lighting and the signage of the track in Søndermarken, Frederiksberg, will provide improved training facilities for both elite runners, joggers by the citizen who will walk Søndermarken around on time.

The project's first phase also includes renewal of the four entrances to the park.

Esbensen is the advisor to GHB Landscape Architects and handles design of the technical installations, including lighting and digital functions on the path, installations at the activity places, lighting at the historical elements and preparation of operating and maintenance plan.

Life and Light gives Søndermarken an overall improvement in quality and is a collaboration between the Sloths og Ejendomsstyrelsen, Frederiksberg Kommune and Lokale & Anlægsfonden. The project is implemented in three phases and has a total budget of approx. DKK 20 mil.
