The new domicile will be a landmark with its organic shape and special scenic location. At the same time it will be a beacon for low-energy buildings and the use of alternative energy sources. The building shall be certified as passive house and after the installation of 1,800 m² energy-producing solar cells, the building becomes the largest plus energy house, with Denmark's second largest solar cell system. Energy initiatives to meet the requirements for the passive house construction include that building has an optimized building envelope, making the heat emitting surface become as small as possible. In the building there is optimum utilization of daylight, passive cooling via 10 km soil pipes and waste heat from the server room used to heat hot water using water pumps. Furthermore, energy-efficient ventilation is used in the form of natural / hybrid and displacement ventilation. The office building will be completed in 2013 and then housed approx. 350 employees. Esbensen are has developed the energy concept and undertake the design of building installations.

The office building must satisfy the requirements for low-energy class. When planning the new office building there has been much focus on optimal indoor climate in order to create comfortable and attractive workplaces, combined with deliberate selection of environmentally friendly materials and optimized daylight access. A benefit of the optimal daylight conditions is also a reduction of energy consumption, which in a traditional office building consists of electricity for artificial lighting, ventilation and cooling. A reduction in energy consumption due to daylighting contributes here to the attainment of low class the 2015. Establishment of a solar cell system of approximately 600 m²on the buildingroof is as part of achieving low-energy class 2015. To accommodate as many solar cells as possible, a flat solar cell system is planned. In that way the solar panels do not overshade each other, and it is possible to install new cells in future. Esbensen has developed the energy concept for the building and will undertake the design of building installations.

The office building is built in two storeys and has an atrium in the center of the building. The atrium contributes to an attractive environment for staff and for unionmembers. The house is carried out according to low-energy class 2015, and includes the following energy initiatives: compact design of the building, which contributes to a minimized envelope surface area and thus low heat loss, well-insulated building having windows with a low U-value. The building design also ensures good daylight conditions in combination with the atrium providing daylight flow to the inside-lying areas. Daylight utilization is important both in terms of energy savings in operation, but also in relation to a comfortable working environment. The atrium also helps to optimize the effect of natural ventilation. There will be mounted 200m²solar cells, which contribute to production of 20 kWh year. Esbensen produced the energy concept and provide the design of building installations.

The new administration building is designed as a edge building on the outside of the existing production hall. The architect's vision is to create a modern "fortress" of openness and transparency. Sustainability is one of the key words in the building design, and both active and passive initiatives will a minimum energy consumption. The passive approach also leads to a comfortable and solid indoor environment, for example the shape of the facade with sloping glass results in very high daylight levels. Artificial light is controlled automatically according to daylight levels. There will also be used energy efficient technologies integrated into a comprehensive solution including individual interests, economy and environment. Esbensen is responsible for development of the energy concept and design of plumbing and ventilation.

Exhibition hall, Stavanger

Design of new exhibition hall in Forum the exhibition area of Stavanger. The hall gets a coherent exhibition space on one level of approximately 5000 m²which when needed can be divided into two smaller areas. The hall shall be able to accommodate around 4000 visitors at exhibitions, but the overall capacity of the hall will be 8000 visitors at concerts and similar occasions. Stavanger Forum is planned to become an area with low CO₂-emissions. Renewable energy sources are prioritized and the energy consumption must be reduced by a minimum of 50 % compared to the current consumption. The building is constructed to utilize its passive capacity. Esbensen is overall energy advisor and is responsible for designing strategies for water, heating, cooling and ventilation.

Esbensen has formulated the sustainable initiatives to be used in a project proposal for a new domicile for Grontmij/Carl Bro Consulting Engineers. The office building is approximately 19.000 m² and will be designed according to low-energy class 1. Esbensen is responsible for the energy concept, design of sustainable initiatives and building installations carried out in close in cooperation with the contractor and the architect.

Office building for StatoilHydro, Oslo

The new office building is to be constructed on Fornebu, the previous airport of Oslo. The building will consist of 5 wings connected in shape of a star. The energy consumption is designed to be 25% lower than the requirements of the Norwegian energy provisions. Esbensen was the lead energy consultant and facilitator of the energy design. The project was won in cooperation with the Norwegian architectural firm A-lab. From the early stages of the project the architects and engineers have worked closely together to optimize the work process. The project concentrates on minimizing the energy consumption by reducing heat loss, installing 3-layer low-energy windows, reduce the need of ventilation by optimizing the ductwork with decentralised systems and short duct lengths. Optimization of daylight conditions in all office areas on all floors have been a highly emphasized feature throughout the process.

Esbensen provided energy consultancy and design of building installations. In the new domicile the energy consumption was in focus eg. by utilizing daylight, implementing water pump technologies for heat production and proved application of natural ventilation through thermal upthrust and wind exposure. A covered atrium is build between the main constructions, securing the visual connection between the open balconies and floors to support the idea of company solidarity.

Development of business centre containing 20.000 m² office facilities and 7.500 m² store area. The business centre is design as a low-energy building, so the building will have a low energy consumption. The business centre signals sustainability and environmental responsibility to clients and staff. The centre is located within a junction of public transportation and will provide direct access to stores from the train platform. Esbensen provided energy consultancy regarding optimization- and evaluation of energy initiatives.

Construction of new head office for Sydbank. The office includes a centre with auditorium and conference facilities plus 5,000 m2 trade facilities for foreign exchange. The trade facilities are ventilated by an advanced ventilation concept. Esbensen provided energy consultancy and administrated design of installations within power-, plumbing-, lighting- and ventilation systems. Esbensen later assisted with construction of reception, lobby and meeting rooms along with a renovation and new construction of accommodation, education facilities and canteen and kitchen.
